The South Island of New Zealand is the 12th largest island on the planet. The western coastline is dominated by the Southern Alps, which consists of more mountains than the entirety of the European Alps, and home to New Zealand’s most treasured peak, Aoraki Mount Cook (3754m / 12,316 ft). The Main Divide, the chain of peaks that forms the backbone of the Alps from Arthur’s Pass to Fiordland, splits the South Island into east and west. Numerous ice ages, and the fact that 2 continental plates are moving past each other (forming the Southern Alps), suggests that the scenery is as rugged as the New Zealand flora and fauna is special. During our adventure we will capitalize on the South Island landscape and experience the best this Island has to offer!

On any Backwoods Adventures trip we always try to have the absolute best meal accommodations possible. We will be eating at standard restaurants throughout the duration of this trip, thus having many more options when we eat. At every meal there will always be a vegetarian dish offered no matter where we go (we do ask for notice ahead of time). For the New Zealand Multi-Sport adventure we will be having a lot of British/Mediterranean influenced dishes. It is said that the most revered meal of the day is dinner in New Zealand, allowing everyone to catch up after the long day.

Below are just a few descriptions of the accommodations for or New Zealand adventure. All accommodations are top-notch for each region we visit.
